We are looking for a capable and experienced First Mate to join a privately owned 38m motor yacht operating primarily in the Caribbean, with a home port in Fort Lauderdale. This is a permanent role within a well-established private program, ideal for a hands-on deck professional who enjoys responsibility, leadership, and being part of a collaborative onboard team.

This position suits someone who leads by example, values structure and high standards, and contributes to a positive, professional onboard culture.

The Role

As First Mate, you will work closely with the Captain to ensure the safe, efficient, and smooth running of the vessel. You will take ownership of deck operations and play a central role in navigation support, safety, and crew leadership, while maintaining excellent standards across maintenance and daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Captain with navigation, passage planning, and bridge watches
• Manage all deck operations, including maintenance planning and execution
• Lead, train, and motivate the deck team to ensure efficient day-to-day operations
• Oversee anchoring, mooring, and tender operations
• Ensure safety procedures, drills, and regulatory compliance are upheld at all times
• Maintain a professional onboard environment with strong teamwork and communication

Candidate Profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience within the yachting industry
• Previous experience as First Mate / Chief Officer on vessels of comparable size
• Confident leader with strong organisational and communication skills
• Physically fit, proactive, and solutions-focused
• Demonstrated longevity and commitment in previous roles

Required Certifications

• 200 GT License
• Yachtmaster Offshore (or equivalent)
• Valid STCW
• ENG1 Medical Certificate

Eligibility

• Valid U.S. passport or U.S. Green Card required (due to vessel base and operations)
